Tim Beckman didn't recruit Ted Karras to Illinois. That was Ron Zook. But it doesn't change the way Beckman feels about Karras, who started on the Illini offensive line for four seasons.
"He was all-in from Day 1," said Beckman, the Illini head football coach from 2012 to 2014. "In the 28 years I got to coach football, you always remember the Ted Karrases. You'll always remember those guys who stepped forward. There are players out that that love football so much.
"In those three or four years, you see him grow and take over a team.
