Straight from the kick, the Vandals and the Broncos shared possession, shuffling from goal to goal. Idaho found a handful of attaching plays to bring them to the top third, but were stopped by Boise, who would continue to attempt to counter, getting off five shots on frame, resulting in five saves from Vandal goalkeeper Paula Flores.

With a clean 0-0 slate moving into the second half, an early corner kick off of Bella Gissendanner to Annika Farley for the header gave the Vandals the lead.
