Wayne Rooney has backed former Manchester United assistant manager Mike Phelan to do a "good job" if he is given the Hull City job on a permanent basis, ahead of the sides' meeting on Saturday.
Phelan is in caretaker charge at Hull following the departure of Steve Bruce on July 22 and has guided the newly promoted side to victories in their opening two Premier League games of the season.
Rooney, who worked with Phelan throughout the 53-year-old's five years as No. 2 at the club, told MUTV: "He obviously worked with Sir Alex Ferguson for a long time and played under him.
