Newcastle are trying to hijack Hull City's move for Nicolas Pepe.
The Tigers reportedly made a £7.7m bid for the Angers forward on Monday as they try to replace Robert Snodgrass following his £10m departure to West Ham.
But, according to L'Equipe, Newcastle have now muscled in on Hull's approach and are trying to hijack their deal.
Angers want around £8.5m for Pepe and they would also like him to be loaned back to them until the end of the season.
Newcastle are willing to meet the 21-year-old's price tag, but they are reluctant to let him go straight back to France.
