McDonald named Hull assistant coach

Hull City have appointed Neil McDonald as assistant to head coach Mike Phelan.

McDonald, 50, left his post as manager of Blackpool in May following their relegation from League One and has also been an assistant at West Ham and Blackburn under Sam Allardyce.

Phelan, who took over in the summer, said: "Neil brings a wealth of football experience, which will be of huge importance as the season progresses."

He will be in the dug-out for Hull's EFL Cup tie at Bristol City on Tuesday.

Hull sit 18th in the Premier League table after five consecutive league defeats.
