Manchester United 2-0 Hull City: Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini goals hand Jose Mourinho's side firm advantage after EFL Cup semi-final first leg

Second-half goals from Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini handed Manchester United a comfortable first-leg advantage in their EFL Cup semi-final clash with Hull City at Old Trafford.

Wayne Rooney came within inches of breaking Sir Bobby Charlton's record as United's all-time leading goalscorer but smashed his effort wide of the right-hand post, before Mata popped up for another crucial goal 10 minutes into second-half.

Fellaini handed the home side breathing space in the tie as Matteo Darmian's cross was looped into the net by the Belgian with three minutes remaining despite Andrew Robertson's best efforts to hook the ball clear on the goal-line.
