Hull midfielder Ryan Mason quits football at just 26 after failing to recover from fractured skull sustained in horror clash with Gary Cahill

Hull midfielder Ryan Mason has been forced to retire from football, just over a year after he fractured his skull in a Premier League match against Chelsea.

The 26-year-old collided with Chelsea centre back Gary Cahill at Stamford Bridge on January 22, 2017. He had to have emergency surgery and spent eight days at St Mary's Hospital in London recovering from his 'life-threatening injury' before being released.

Mason explained in a statement on Tuesday that the decision to retire was taken on medical grounds.
