Hull City booked their place in the Papa John’s Trophy knockout stages with a convincing win over local neighbours Grimsby.
Two goals in five first-half minutes from Martin Samuelsen – the first a stunning 20-yard effort – put the Tigers firmly in the driving seat.
Substitute James Scott added a spectacular third 11 minutes from time and Samuelsen missed the chance to complete his hat-trick when his penalty was saved by James McKeown.
The result means Hull City finish top of Northern Group H and are guaranteed a home draw in the round of 32.
