Former Hull City footballer Dean Windass is banned for three years after he was caught at the wheel of his Mercedes still over the limit at noon after night out

Former Hull City star Dean Windass has been banned from driving for three years after he was caught drunk behind the wheel.

Windass, 48, was on his way to a meeting at the Hallmark Hotel in North Ferriby, East Riding of Yorkshire, when he was pulled over in December.

The retired striker was speeding in his Mercedes when police signalled him to stop, with officers then smelling alcohol on his breath.

Windass later revealed he had been drinking the night before, but thought the alcohol had left his system, Hull Magistrates' Court heard.

Geoff Ellis, prosecuting, said: 'The defendant's Mercedes was stopped by police for exceeding the speed limit.
