Hull City defender John Egan has triggered a contract extension which will keep him at the Championship club until the end of next season.

The 33-year-old Republic of Ireland international joined the Tigers from Burnley on an 18-month deal, with the option of an extra year, last February.

He told BBC Radio Humberside on Thursday he understood the further year had come into effect last month and the club have confirmed that is the case.

"A lot of people were surprised when I left Burnley to come to Hull, but I knew, if we stayed up, the quality of players that were coming back and they wanted to bring in," Egan said.
