Texans' Tyler Ervin tore patellar tendon, to undergo surgery

Texans running back and kick returner Tyler Ervin tore his patellar tendon Sunday against the Tennessee Titans, according to league sources.

Ervin is scheduled to undergo surgery to repair the damage Monday and is expected to be placed on injured reserve.

Ervin got injured during a punt return in the first quarter of a 57-14 win over the Tennessee Titans.
As he headed toward the sideline, Ervin was limping and in obvious discomfort.

After being examined by the Texans' medical staff, it was determined that Ervin shouldn't go back into the game.

Ervin improved in his second NFL season in terms of ball security on special teams after an up-and-down rookie season and was being used mostly as a receiver on offense.
