The Texans are signing former San Francisco 49ers defensive back Marcus Cromartie to the 53-man roster, according to a league source not authorized to speak publicly.
Cromartie will sign a one-year contract.
Cromartie is the cousin of New York Giants cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and former NFL cornerback Antonio Cromartie.
The Texans are expected to place running back Tyler Ervin on injured reserve after he tore his patellar tendon this week and underwent surgery.
A Texas native, Cromartie has recorded 21 career tackles and two passes defended.
He went undrafted out of Wisconsin and signed with the San Diego Chargers.
