The Texans are promoting former Jacksonville Jaguars and Seattle Seahawks quarterback Alex McGough to their active roster from the practice squad, according to a league source not authorized to speak publicly.
The Jaguars had McGough in mind for a backup spot with starter Nick Foles on injured reserve with a broken collarbone, but the Texans were proactive about making sure McGough was on their active roster.
McGough was with the Jaguars during the preseason before joining the Texans on an upgraded practice squad salary worth over $20,000 per week.
McGough played at Florida International. He was drafted in the seventh round by the Seahawks and spent last year on their practice squad where he was coached by Texans quarterbacks coach Carl Smith.
