One year after suffering a gruesome injury to both knees during a Monday night game against the Denver Broncos, Texans offensive tackle Derek Newton is diligently rehabilitating from a pair of ruptured patellar tendons.
Now, Newton has been voted by his teammates as the Texans' annual Ed Block Courage award winner. The award recognizes extraordinary efforts to overcome adversity on and off the field.
"It's an honor to be chosen by my teammates to win the Ed Block Courage Award," Newton said. "It's a very humbling experience to know these guys have supported me from the outset, and it gives me extra motivation to get back out there with them as soon as I can.
