Texans cut Matt Kalil, save up to $5.25 million

The Texans cut former Pro Bowl left offensive tackle Matt Kalil, according to a league source not authorized to speak publicly.

Kalil became expendable after the Texans traded for Miami Dolphins offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil. By cutting Kalil, the Texans upgraded their offensive line and saved potentially as much as $5.25 million. Kalil already paid a $2.25 million signing bonus, but was due a nonguaranteed $3.25 million base salary and up to $2 million in roster bonuses if he was active for every game.

Kalil missed the entire season last year due to a knee injury last season with the Carolina Panthers.
