Texans' Bill O'Brien will call plays, won't hire an offensive coordinator

Coach Bill O'Brien will call plays next season, and the Texans won't be hiring an offensive coordinator to replace George Godsey.

Receivers coach Sean Ryan will switch to coaching quarterbacks. Offensive assistant Pat O'Hara will continue to work with the quarterbacks.

O'Brien and Godsey, who called plays except for a brief period early last season when O'Brien took over the role, reached a "mutual parting" of the ways this week. Godsey was the primary quarterbacks coach during the last three seasons.

Ryan, who came to the Texans last year, spent nine seasons with the New York Giants.
