In an inexplicable sequence, the Texans' aggressiveness backfired as a low-percentage trick play went awry.
With the score tied in the second quarter of the Texans' 16-10 loss to the Carolina Panthers, Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson lateraled it to All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. Throwing across the field on a pass intended for running back Carlos Hyde, Hopkins was intercepted by cornerback Ross Cockrell. Instead of coming away with at least a field goal or possibly scoring a touchdown with possession at the Panthers' 18-yard line, the Texans allowed the Panthers to turn the turnover into a short touchdown run by Christian McCaffrey and a10-3 halftime lead.
