Texans' A.J. McCarron out of cast, throwing again

Texans backup quarterback A.J. McCarron is out of the cast and is throwing during warmups Thursday night at NRG Stadium.

McCarron is dressed out in full uniform, but is not expected to play in a preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams.

It's an encouraging sign for McCarron and his availability for the season opener against the New Orleans Saints after he broke his right throwing thumb during a joint practice with the Green Bay Packers.

Signed to a one-year, $3 million contract this offseason to back up Deshaun Watson, the former Cincinnati Bengals fifth-round draft pick and Alabama standout has previous stints with the Oakland Raiders and Buffalo Bills.
