Sugar Land’s Simone Manuel, off a history-making turn at the Rio Olympics, was an honorary Texans captain before Sunday’s preseason game against Arizona at NRG Stadium.
In Rio, Manuel became the first African-American woman to win an individual gold medal in swimming.
Manuel won four medals, including gold in the 100-meter freestyle and as part of the U.S. team in the 400-meter medley relay. She also took silver in the 50-meter freestyle and silver in the 400-meter freestyle relay.
“Sometimes, I'm able to put it in perspective and sometimes I'm still figuring it out,” Manuel said of her feats.
