According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, Texans OLB Brennan Scarlett is the favorite to start opposite OLB Whitney Mercilus in 2017. The team is looking to replace OLB John Simon, who left the Texans for the Colts this offseason.
In his rookie year last season, Scarlett played in a total of eight games, and saw defensive snaps in just six of them. He played just 30.7% of possible snaps (119 total) Â and earned an overall grade of just 45.7.
Though the sample size was small, Scarlett did show promise both as a run stopper and in coverage.
