According to ESPN's Cole Cubelic, the other coaches in the Southern Division will be former Auburn coach Gene Chizik (Birmingham Stallions), former Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley (Tampa Bay Bandits) and former Toronto Argonauts head coach Bart Andrus (New Orleans Breakers).
The 57-year-old Sumlin last coached at Arizona where he went 9-20 in three seasons. Under Sumlin, the Wildcats went 0-5 in a pandemic-shortened season in 2020 and lost their last game to rival Arizona State 70-7. Sumlin was fired the next day.
Sumlin had much more success at Houston and Texas A&M.
