How a Raiders Super Bowl champion got team to donate $1 million to Uvalde

Al Davis used to love to say “Once a Raider, always a Raider,” and his son Mark Davis, who took over the Oakland Raiders and eventually moved them to Las Vegas after his father died, is carrying on that tradition.

It’s been more than 30 years since Vann McElroy played for the Raiders, but when the Uvalde native spoke to Mark Davis about the needs of his hometown, which still is reeling from last month’s elementary school shooting that left 19 children and two adults dead, the Raiders owner stepped up with a $1 million donation to the school district.
