First in the series we consider the quarterback position. More than any other group quarterback performance affects the play of the other groups and the fate of the team. Good quarterback play makes the offensive line’s job easier, enhances receivers and tight ends performances and provides more opportunities for running backs. Defensive groups can be more flexible, apply more pressure, face fewer short field situations and spend less time on the field.
Much has been written about the acquisition of Brock Osweiler. Brandon Weeden is a solid journeyman. Tom Savage is the media’s forgotten man although the coaching staff seems well aware of his growth and potential.
