Houston Texans Rumors: Deshaun Watson is Pursuing a Three-Year Contract Extension

As of right now, Deshaun Watson is playing under the fourth year of his rookie contract. Watson is scheduled to make $4.4 million in 2020, and next season, he will be under the fifth year of his rookie contract at $17.5 million. Typically teams don’t let their franchise quarterbacks play the fifth year option out. Instead they sign them to a long-term extension to keep everyone happy, and ensure that chaos can’t step in and open the door for an early exit.

It’s been reported earlier this offseason that Watson was in contract extension discussions with the Texans along with Laremy Tunsil, who signed a three-year extension of his own earlier this offseason.
