Houston Texans fire Lovie Smith after just one season

For the second consecutive year, the Houston Texans are one-and-done at the head coaching position.

Multiple outlets reported late Sunday evening that Texans coach Lovie Smith has been fired after just one season with the team. Smith replaced David Culley, who was also fired after one year in Houston, as head coach in February 2022.

The Texans confirmed the reports, with CEO Cal McNair and general manager Nick Caserio each releasing statements.

“Nick Caserio and I spoke with Lovie Smith tonight and informed him that we will be moving in a different direction as an organization,” McNair said.
