Former Houston Texans team captain set to retire from NFL

A regular fixture on the Houston Texans defense in recent years reportedly plans to retire from the NFL.

Per NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, Christian Kirksey has informed his current team—the Buffalo Bills—that he intends to step away from the game. Kirksey started 94 games in nine NFL seasons, compiling 778 tackles, 16 1/2 sacks, seven interceptions, four forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries.

Kirksey was a linebacker for the Texans for the past two seasons, a stretch in which he was named a team captain and received a nomination for the 2022 Walter Payton Man of the Year Award—an honor that "recognizes a player for their outstanding community service activities off the field and excellence on the field.
