Rockets waive former No. 1 pick Anthony Bennett

The Rockets on Wednesday waived forward Anthony Bennett, with the knee injury he brought to camp preventing the former No. 1 pick from competing for a roster spot.

Bennett was able to participate in the Rockets' practices in Houston and did not join the team for the trip to Honolulu and Tokyo. When it was determined he would need knee surgery, it became clear that he would not make the 15-player roster, a person with knowledge of the decision said last week.

Bennett, the first pick of the 2013 NBA Draft, had spent the past two seasons in the G League, averaging 12.
