Rockets trounce Pelicans, clinch playoff spot

NEW ORLEANS – If the Rockets did not have their eyes on bigger and better things, the occasion of Sunday's 113-90 romp past the New Orleans Pelicans might have been viewed as a more significant, more special, more worthy celebration to go beyond perfunctory high fives on the way off the floor.

The game itself was mostly a test of concentration, with what's left of the Pelicans, battered by injuries and limiting lame duck superstar Anthony Davis to 20 minutes, never seeming able to mount much of a challenge.

The Rockets never trailed, led by as much as 28 and cruised, sometimes sleep-walked, to the taking-care-of-business evening.
