Rockets trading Christian Wood to Mavericks for draft pick, other players

With Christian Wood set to become an unrestricted free agent next offseason, the Rockets had a decision to make: Trade the soon-to-be 27-year-old center or offer him a big contract. The Rockets made the decision Wednesday when they agreed to trade Wood to the Dallas Mavericks for the 26th pick in next week’s NBA Draft, Boban Marjanovic, Trey Burke, Marquese Chriss and Sterling Brown, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Rockets signed Wood to a three-year, $41 million contract before the 2020 season, which turned out to be a bargain when he averaged 21 points and 9.
