Rockets sign talented young star to five-year contract extension

Houston Rockets forward Jabari Smith Jr. gained a new superstar teammate with last week's trade for Kevin Durant. Smith then signed a new contract extension Sunday that should keep him in Houston through the rest of this decade.

Smith, the No. 3 pick in the 2022 NBA draft, reportedly agreed to a five-year, $122 million contract extension with the Rockets on Sunday evening, as first reported by ESPN's Shams Charania. The Athletic's Kelly Iko reported Smith's contract is fully guaranteed through the 2030-31 season, with no player or team opt-out clauses.
