The NBA has decided to void the contract of Houston Rockets big man Nene, opting to instead make his outgoing trade salary worth $2.6 million and not $10 million.
This has left the Rockets in a bad spot, as their road to avoiding the luxury tax just got that much harder. In addition, their ability to trade for Memphis Grizzlies forward Andre Iguodala without compromising the core has been scrapped entirely.
The manner in which the league reversed course on this contract without a rule being broken by the Rockets is unprecedented, but it’s far from the first time the league has voided a player’s contract.
