Grizzlies have ‘Whoop That Trick,’ let’s pick a Houston sports anthem

There’s not a much better scene in an NBA arena than when the Grizzlies get up late in a game and they blast the Memphis classic “Whoop That Trick” over the FedEx Forum speakers – especially when they have Al Kapone himself rap it in Steph Curry’s face. Houston has way more hip hop classics than Memphis, and it’s time we adopt one as the arena anthem that tells visiting teams it’s time to kick rocks.

Picking just one is a nearly impossible task.

Geto Boys’ “Mind Playing Trick On Me” may be the most well-known rap song to ever come out of Houston, but there’s no real hook that fans can chant, unless we want to all stand and yell the super-familiar beat, “Dah dahdahdah dahdahdah dahdah, Dah dahdahdah dahdahdah dahdah,” which, you know, isn’t a half-bad idea, but doesn’t quite have the “Whoop That Trick” energy.
