In a cover story in the upcoming Sports Illustrated, Dwight Howard revealed that he was so emotionally down after his second season with the Rockets that he considered retirement at the age of 29.

"The joy was sucked out of it," Howard said in the magazine, which hits newsstands Sept. 25.

At the time, the 2014-15 season was Howard's worst statistically since his rookie year. He averaged 15.8 points and 10.5 rebounds per game and played just 41 games due to a lingering knee issue. Despite that, the Rockets had a great season, going 56-26, winning the Southwest Division and making it to the Western Conference Finals before losing to eventual NBA champion Golden State.
