Most of the country remembers today as the 27th anniversary of the O.J. Simpson police chase. Rockets fans remember it as the night they nearly lost their minds when NBC switched its broadcast from Game 5 of the Rockets-Knicks NBA Finals to show the chase.
With the series tied up, the teams were in a tight game midway through the second quarter when NBC completely cut away from Game 5 with 6:39 left in the second quarter to give an update on Simpson, who was in the back of a white Ford Bronco driven by Al Cowlings as the police slowly followed the pair on Los Angeles freeways.
