Dynamo’s Memo Rodriguez emerges as homegrown talent without another would-be star: His best friend

After lightning interrupted a June match against North Carolina FC, Jose Guillermo Rodriguez struck his first goal in a Dynamo uniform.

At 2-2, in the 109th minute of play, Rodriguez rifled in the game-winner from 25 yards away.

“I gave it every ounce of power I had,” Rodriguez said.

Since then, Rodriguez, nicknamed “Memo,” has scored two goals in nine Major League Soccer games this season for the Dynamo, who will play Sporting KC at BBVA Compass Stadium for the first round of the playoffs on Thursday.

Rodriguez missed the last month with a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee, which he said likely will keep him out for the rest of the season.
