Dynamo’s Arturo Alvarez to take over Vicente Sanchez role

Because he is from Houston, Arturo Alvarez already was going to be a Dynamo fan favorite in 2018.

With news of the role coach Wilmer Cabrera intends for him to play, Alvarez may become beloved for something else altogether, too.

Speaking at the Dynamo’s media day Tuesday, Cabrera said Alvarez will take over for retired midfielder Vicente Sanchez, who provided a big spark for the club off the bench in 2017.

Sanchez had a handful of great moments in the final third of last season - none bigger than the individual effort he made that led to an assist in extra time of the knockout round game against Sporting Kansas City that gave the Dynamo a 1-0 victory.
