Dynamo defeat Earthquakes, continue best start in club history

The Houston Dynamo are off to their best five-game league start in club history thanks to a 2-1 win over the San Jose Earthquakes at BBVA Compass Stadium on Saturday.

Houston (4-0-1; 13 points), winner of four straight, wasn't short of chances early.

Forwards Mauro Manotas and Alberth Elis nearly connected for a sixth-minute goal that was saved at close-range. Two minutes later, in a desperate defensive sequence, San Jose fended away a Manotas shot then repelled Marlon Hairston seconds later after Boniek Garcia made an acrobatic effort to retain possession along the end line.

Ten minutes into the game, Houston appeared to finally capitalize when Manotas received the ball in space and advanced it to Hairston, who angled his shot past goalkeeper Daniel Vega before being called offside.
