Monday marks a memorable 10-year anniversary for the Astros’ tombstone

Can you believe it’s been 10 years since the tombstone?

On this day a decade ago, the 2005 Astros season was given the tombstone treatment by the Chronicle in a memorable sports front page.

They were 19-32 at the time, and at one point that season had been 15 games under .500, sitting in sixth place in the National League Central Division and 14 games behind the first-place Cardinals. At the time. only one team (the 1914 Boston Braves) had ever trailed by that many games on June 1 and made the playoffs. So that lent some credence to the tombstone.
