CINCINNATI — Kris Bryant was in the Home Run Derby and the All-Star Game, while Mark Appel was in the Futures Game.
The early returns on the top two picks of the 2013 draft were on display during the All-Star festivities, where Bryant, taken by the Cubs second overall that year, said he didn’t think there was a chance he’d be taken first overall “at all, actually.”
“I honestly, I didn’t think it’d be the Astros,” said Bryant, 23. “I actually didn’t even think it’d be the Cubs. I thought I would go to the Rockies. But I’m glad it was the Cubs, I’m having a great time with my teammates and the organization.
