George Springer to DL with thumb sprain

OAKLAND -- The A's have acquired right-handed pitcher Mike Fiers from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for two players to be named or cash considerations, the club announced on Monday. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the A's designated left-handed pitcher Jeremy Bleich for assignment.

Fiers was 7-6 with a 3.48 ERA and .258 opponents batting average in 21 starts with Detroit. He has walked just 26 batters in 119.0 innings and his average of 1.97 walks per nine innings is eighth lowest in the American League. The 33-year-old right-hander has held the opposition to a .
