Commissioner encourages teams to protect intellectual property in employee contracts

BOCA RATON, Fla. — They want Ground Control to avoid lift off in the future.

Commissioner Rob Manfred spoke to general managers on Tuesday morning about the protection of intellectual property and the steps clubs can take to ensure movement of executives doesn’t mean a movement of trade secrets.

“It will be on the agenda for the owners’ meeting next week,” Manfred said. “We’ve already had some conversations with owners about the need for individual clubs to protect their intellectual property in individual employee contracts. I don’t think that intellectual property is one of those things where you can have, ‘Major League Rule 22 governs intellectual property.
