Astros’ Chris Carter gets day off for first time since late April

TORONTO – First baseman Chris Carter was out of the Astros’ starting lineup Saturday for only the fourth time this season and the first since April 20. Astros manager A.J. Hinch arrived in Toronto planning to give Carter and George Springer one day off in the three-game series against the Blue Jays.

Carter sat one day after his 12-game hitting streak was snapped.

“Obviously I wish it would have continued and made it more difficult to sit him,” Hinch said of Carter’s hitting streak. “But when you come off of that type of streak it’s also not a bad day to clear your mind and get off his feet.
