Astros reportedly avoid arbitration with Springer

The Astros will not go to an arbitration hearing with George Springer after all. The World Series champions have agreed to a two-year, $24 million contract with their All-Star right fielder, according to multiple reports Monday morning.

The club has not confirmed the reports.

According to USA Today, which first reported the agreement, Springer's deal will be spread evenly between 2018 and '19, paying him $12 million in both seasons.

In preparation for the hearing that would have determined his 2018 salary if he and the team didn't agree to a contract, Springer had filed for $10.
