Astros News: Team honors newly-elected Hall of Famer Craig Biggio in Minute Maid Park ceremony

The Houston Astros honored newly-elected Hall of Famer Craig Biggio in a ceremony at Minute Maid Park on Friday, celebrating the first career-long Astro to receive induction.

Per Click2Houston.com's Matt Aufdenspring, "Astros team adviser Nolan Ryan, president of business operations Reid Ryan, Houston Mayor Annise Parker and others spoke at the event."

The ceremony was free to the public and gave fans a chance to cheer their hometown hero en masse before he is finally immortalized.

Biggio joins Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez and John Smoltz in the Hall of Fame's class of 2015. He appeared on 454 ballots this time around, 42 more than the 75 percent benchmark necessary for a player to be inducted. Biggio appeared on 68.2 percent of the ballots for the 2013 class and barely missed induction last year when he appeared on 74.8 percent.

Fellow Astro and former teammate Jeff Bagwell wasn't so lucky this go-around, appearing on just 55.7 percent of the BBWA's ballots.
