Collin Welp scored 18 points and Brad Greene grabbed 21 rebounds to lead UC Irvine to a 74-60 win over Hawai’i in a Big West Conference men’s basketball game on Saturday.
A crowd of 2,938 at the Bren Events Center in Irvine, Calif., watched the Anteaters improve to 9-8 overall and 1-0 in the Big West. The Rainbow Warriors dropped to 10-6 and 1-1.
Samuta Avea led Hawai’i with 14 points, and Eddie Stansberry added 11. However, both players shot inconsistently, as did the entire team. Avea was 5 for 15 from the field, and Stansberry was 3 for 13.
