For about 25 minutes, the University of Hawai’i basketball team stayed right with the No. 6-ranked team in the country. Then Miami proved its worth in the game’s final 15 minutes of a 75-57 win over the Rainbow Warriors on the opening night of the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic.
The game was closer than the final score indicated, and the Warriors became the first team this season to hold a second-half lead against Miami.
Dewan Huell led the Hurricanes with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting, and also grabbed six rebounds. Ja’Quan Newton also scored 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting, and Anthony Lawrence II added 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting.
