Callen Perreira’s first impression after the start of his second stint as UH-Hilo softball coach: We can do this.
The Vulcans’ bats were finally thwarted by Cal State San Bernardino’s Cassandra Williams on Sunday, but Perreira will take the positive signs he saw at the Desert Stinger tournament and be happy to get out of Las Vegas with a 3-2 record.
“We competed with some very good teams,” Perreira said. “Realizing we have pretty much an underclassmen starting lineup, I’m very encouraged by what I saw.”
How weird was it for Perreria, the program’s winningest coach, to be a back in charge of the Vulcans for the first time since 2009.
