Honokaa’s second BIIF softball victory against Hawaii Prep in the past week wasn’t nearly as easy as its first.
Tyra Fernandez hit a go-ahead two-run double in the eighth inning Thursday to spur a four-run rally, and the Dragons held on to beat Ka Makani 7-5 in Waimea.
Sneha Nair’s hit produced two runs for Ka Makani (0-3) in the bottom of the eighth, scoring Katt Chong Gum, who was hit by a pitch, and Sara Heymann, who singled.
But Fernandez fielded a grounder to short and threw out Tina Wu to secure the victory for Dragons (2-1), who beat HPA in an 18-8 TKO on Feb.
