1 a.Baseball: A pitch to bring an adult league to the Big Island

The Men’s Senior Baseball League is a big hit around the country and Rick Leach thinks it’s time for Big Island ballplayers to impersonate Casey or Jose Canseco at the Bat.

The MSBL, which started in 1988, is the largest amateur baseball league, and has 325 local affiliates, 3,200 teams, and 45,000 members who play in local leagues, 30 regional tournaments, and six national tournaments.

Leach is confident there are enough interested ballplayers (anyone 18 years old and older qualifies) that he’s holding a meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday at Kulaimano Park in Pepeekeo.

“Once it gets going, I think it’ll take off,” he said.
