Thursday Night Football: Lions vs. Packers Preview and Prediction

The 4-7 Detroit Lions host the 7-4 Green Bay Packers on Thursday Night Football in a battle of NFC North rivals. The Lions defeated the Packers 18-16 in the first matchup earlier this season, so the Packers are out for revenge. Who will come away victorious? Here's our preview and prediction.

Game Info:

When: 8:25 p.m. ET

Where: Ford Field, Detroit, Michigan

National TV: NFL Network

Spread: Packers by 2.5

What's At Stake:

The Lions have won three straight games and are holding on to dreams of a playoff push. That's a steep (and unlikely) task, but the Lions aren't eliminated yet. The Packers have dropped four of their last five games, with the only winning coming against the Vikings. Both teams are in desperate need of a victory.

Key To The Game:

How well does the Lions' defense perform against the Green Bay offense? RB Eddie Lacy is playing better than he has all season and the Lions must find a way to limit his success on the ground. The same is true of Aaron Rodgers and the Packers' passing attack. Rodgers hasn't been quite as sharp this year, and his wide outs' inability to get separation is partly to blame for that. WR Davante Adams in particular has struggled. He's been targeted a ton, but is battling drops and has underachieved. The Lions did a great job of limiting the Packers' offense in their first contest this season, and must find a way to do so again.

Prediction: Packers Win 27-24

It's a close contest, but the Packers come out on top. Rodgers puts together one of his better efforts this season and Lacy has his third straight game of 100 rushing yards. The Lions compete and nearly pull out a win, but the team with the better QB leaves with the victory.
